So Long, Seniors (3rd edition)
The Magnolia Heights girl's soccer team is wrapping up their second season of competition, and as with any sporting season coming to a close, MHS must say farewell to a group of seniors. This year, three young ladies - Lauren Beuker, Jessica Rawlings and Hannah Sexton - were recognized before the home Bayou game. When asked for comments about his seniors, Coach Barry Coleman had this to say: "It is with sadness that we have to say goodbye to three very special young women. Even though they had little experience playing organized soccer, they enthusiastically helped get the MHS soccer program off the ground. Each one has helped in a different capacity and all have been an integral part of the 2008 soccer campaign. "Hannah Sexton - Hannah was one of the co-captains this year and has been a two year starter for the Lady Chiefs. Hannah has played all positions on the field and is currently starting at fullback. She is very vocal in instructing the younger players on and off the field and will be missed next year. "Lauren Beuker - Lauren is one of our co-captains and has started at fullback the last two years. She is a tough, aggressive defender who gives it her all on every play. Her determined attitude has been a positive example for all of the underclassmen. "Jessica Rawlings - Jessica has also played each of the last two seasons and has been one of the building blocks of our program. Jessica plays both midfield and forward. For those who don't remember, Jessica spent six weeks out of school due to a serious illness her sophomore year. To see her healthy and active again and able to participate has been an inspiration to everyone around her. "Each of these young ladies has given much time and energy to provide the MHS soccer program a solid foundation on which to build upon. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and we will miss each of them. We wish them well as they pursue their futures." ************************************************** MHS, after pulling off a huge 6 run final inning rally against Heritage, fell to Pillow and ended the 2008 softball season. One bit of MHS trivia will be an accomplishment of two of the seniors. Rachel McDonald and Rian O'Bannon were the starting battery the first year of MHS fastpitch during its inaugural season of 2002. The final pitch MHS made in the 2008 season was performed by the very same battery - Rachel and Rian. Both of these young ladies lettered in a single sport 7 (SEVEN!!!) times - an accomplishment that may never be duplicated on any level in any school. Congratulations to the Ladies. The 2007 season is considered the most successful season ever in softball, but the 2008 season was only one game shy of reaching same level. |
News and Upcoming Events There will be a Parents' Club meeting Monday, September 29th at 6pm in the high school library. The MHS Parents Club is open to all parents who have children at Magnolia Heights and all are encouraged to attend. The football team will take on Washington School in a very important conference game in Greenville Friday evening. The Booster Club golf tournament is planned for October 8th. Please contact Coach Patterson and Mrs. Marilynne Burnside for entry and hole sponsor forms. ******************************************** ![]() To show the family atmosphere that is evident at MHS, this picture, from a recent football game, should be named "The Ladies of MHS". Consider the following facts about this group of women: Two mother/daughter pairs are shown (a third is also a parent of a MHS alumni and mother of a present student). Three are graduates of MHS. Three are or have been full time faculty members. Four have been or are full time staff members at MHS. Three have attended MHS from the first grade. One has taught three of the others. One graduated with the webmaster (but did NOT attend MS State). All presently are active supporters of MHS. All are seen occasionally walking the halls of MHS and are warmly greeted by students as part of the MHS family. ********************************************* |
