There is..... If someone were to ask a group of people to complete a sentence starting with the two words above, it is a safe bet that 99% would complete it with "no place like home" - a statement that is as true today as it was when Dorothy uttered those words almost 70 years ago. Friday night at Cahill Field was once again happy and sad at the same time. For this night would see happiness for many in a win and sadness for a few in their home curtain call. The few who have the heavy hearts are a group of seniors who have called Cahill Field home since the boys played elementary pee wee football and the girls who performed for their proud parents on the sidelines for the first time. They are now the oldest group of students at MHS. They are the ones the others look up to and want to emulate. They are the senior football athletes of the Class of 2008. And Friday night was their last time to have a home field advantage. In a true MHS tradition, these youngsters, who have grown up so much since those early days (almost half a lifetime ago), and their parents were honored before Friday's game for the sacrifices and time that they have given to be a part of the MHS athletic family. Even though the season may not be over, the lights have been forever darkened on the home field for this special group of students. We wish to honor the following Chieftain football and cheerleader seniors: Anna Kate Alexander Devin Birmingham Amanda Dulaney Scott Dunaway Julie Ann Ferguson Cody Hunter Johnny Lacefield Jeremy Landrum Katherine Loftiss Zach Massey Ryan Mayfield Caroline Parks Hewston Vancil Cody Walker The time spent working by these upperclassmen during the last six plus years may be forgotten by some and may have not been noticed by others - but those long hours of practice have instilled a dedication that the younger athletes are just now in the process of learning. No school has a course called "Dedication 101" since it cannot be taught in the classroom. It is learned and developed by observation and guidance of people you look up to - whether those people are coaches, teachers, or even the mentors that they also call classmates. And the MHS underclassman football players and cheerleaders had great teachers in this exceptional group of seniors.
Thank you, Seniors!! Each of you has truly earned the MHS "Tip of the Fedora"!
