Class of 2008=Alumni

Graduations are usually times when the students are fired up to get out of high school and head off to college or work to forge a new chapter in their lives.  It is to be expected - that is one of the underlying reasons that we have graduation ceremonies.  The students are finally finishing this very important part of growing up and are prepared to move on. However, there are times when we all should remember that the graduates could not have made it to that point by themselves. At approximately 8:16 PM Thursday evening, after all the pageantry, marching and prayers have taken place, Kaitlin Bell will be standing on the stage making a speech when she utters the words, "With this rose...."  At that moment, the seniors will stand and perform an act that has been repeated for more than a quarter century at MHS - the Rose Ceremony.  This very special time is not for MHS, the administration, faculty, nor even the younger students in attendance.  It is the time when the seniors will publicly present their parents, or the ones closest and dearest in their hearts, with a single rose and a heartfelt hug. The gift signifies their love for their parents and gratitude for everything they have sacrificed - sacrifices made for nothing more than the privilege of proudly watching their children mature into the fine young adults.  While the ceremony will only take a few minutes to perform, the memories of the moment will last a lifetime.

While the MHS family is proud of the Class of 2008, it also holds the same honor for the senior's parents and loved ones.  MHS thanks each and every parent and loved one and invites everyone to take part in this most important rite of passage.

To the Class of 2008,

"As parents and teachers, we strive to give our students and children 'wings'.  All the rules and accountability were necessary to help those wings become strong.  The times will come when the wind, rain and predators will attempt to destroy, but the strength of those wings will endure.  As you take this first step into adulthood, know two things:  You are dearly loved and home is always a special place.  So as you begin your journey, keep your eyes on the prize and stay true to your values so that you can become the person God has intended to you be.  The hands that you held when you needed help to cross the street as a small child are the same hands that are now helping to open the door called “The Future”.  So now graduate, spread your wings and begin your flight.

"And thank you for all the joy and happiness you have brought into our lives. You will certainly be missed."

--The MHS Faculty

"Come to the edge, he said.

They said:  We are afraid.

Come to the edge, he said.
They came. He pushed them...
       And they flew."
